Although many liposuction techniques exist over the years and can help trim your waist and improve your abdomen, a comparison will help you understand the benefits of each procedure and which one will more effectively improve your appearance and your safety.
Safety
The classic form of liposuction is often referred to as Suction-Assisted Liposuction or SAL. This technique is the basis of all methods today and is still practiced today. SAL requires a surgeon to continually move their wrist back-and-forth until the desired amount of fat is removed. The repetitive movements to dislodge and remove fat cells is not gentle and can be traumatic to the tissues resulting in a lengthy recovery period and irregularities to occur under the skin once healing is complete. Often, patients are placed under general anesthesia and further surgery is needed to tighten resulting loosely hanging skin. More anesthesia and more surgery carry more risk of complications.
Heat-assisted liposuction techniques, like those used by Vaser and SmartLipo systems, while touted as fast and minimally invasive, can result in severe complications. Potential risks of heat-assisted liposuction can range from the cosmetic: dimpling, discoloration, scarring, or sagging skin, to the health-compromising: infection, inflammation, and even skin necrosis. The laser can result in burns, and pain from the procedure can last for months.
LIPO-VIBE liposuction targets unwanted fat cells using the power of vibration, while leaving the surrounding blood vessels, nerve tissues, and connective tissues intact and unharmed. This results in less bruising and scarring and injury to important structures. Heat-generating liposuction machines such as SmartLipo machines or Vaser liposuction can cause unsightly scarring and dimpling.

When removing fat, most liposuction techniques destroy the soft-tissue scaffolding that secures the fat in place. By doing so, skin sags because it is left with no internal support. What should I expect during LIPO-VIBE liposuction?
After a final consultation to answer any final questions, photos will be taken and you will be custom-outlined with a marker depending on your goals. At this point, you will receive medications to help you relax. Your treated areas will be injected with an anesthetic fluid that will numb the area and swell the fat cells making them more easy to remove. An thin wand is inserted under your skin through tiny incisions. The wand vibrates at ultrasonic speed to shake fat cells loose, like shaking ripped fruit from a tree. The loose fat cells are vacuumed out gently. The procedure is usually painless but you might feel the vibrations tickle parts of your body at times. The length of time each session lasts depends on the size of the treatment areas.
What happens after the procedure?
After you undergo LIPO-VIBE liposuction at Natural Radiance Med Spa, you can head home the same day. Have a friend or family member drive you there, however. You can expect some swelling and bruising at the sites of treatment. Drink plenty of fluids, change the dressings over the incisions as you are expected to drain fluid for a day or so, and wear compression garments as directed to minimize swelling. It is good to stay active, and walk often. We do not recommend heavy exercise for two weeks.
